The Patriots received some terrible news this weekend, as Julian Edelman’s MRI showed a completely torn ACL. Tom Brady’s favorite receiver, who was targeted 159 times last season, will be out for the entire season. The loss of a star typically sends a team into panic mode, but I expect the Patriots will remain poised as ever, and likely bring in a new face to fill the void. Here are three wide receivers the Pats should pick up to try to replace Edelman’s production this year.
3. Stevie Johnson
Stevie Johnson could be a great pickup for the Patriots. The former Buffalo Bill has three 1,000-yard seasons under his belt as well as a 10-touchdown reception season. He remains available in free agency and could likely be had for dirt cheap. Johnson, put in the right situation, could be very productive.
2. Vincent Jackson
Vincent Jackson is reaching the tail end of his career at 34 years old, but he may still have some gas left in the tank. Jackson’s production has declined in recent seasons, but perhaps playing with Tom Brady can make Jackson’s job a little easier. Following a career with nearly 10,000 receiving yards, Jackson certainly has the experience the Patriots would love to add on board.
1. Dorial Green-Beckham
Dorial Green-Beckham was highly touted coming out of Missouri, though he has failed to reach his potential since joining the NFL. He has spent two seasons in the league, one with the Titans and the other in Philadelphia. The towering 6-foot-5, 225-pound wideout is still just 24 years old and is still available. The Pats should give him a serious look.
